Hazardous Materials Cases
Americase is a qualified supplier of HM224B compliant containers for Oxygen Bottles and Generators. The Americase HM224B Super Box program has completed design testing and certification of HM224B compliant containers for Oxygen Bottles. Design testing is currently in progress on compliant containers for Oxygen Generators. Americase and Akro Fireguard have partnered together in development and production of HM224B compliant containers. All Americase HM224B Super Box containers meet the requirements set forth by PHSMA. See summary of requirements. See design documentation.

Additional HAZMAT Solutions

In addition to "Standard ATA 300 Cat 1 HAZMAT” cases, we are now producing “DOT31FP / HM224B Compliant Fiberboard Cartons” as well as “Reusable DOT31FP / HM224B Steel Boxes” for COG’s (Chemical Oxygen Generator), PBE’s (Protective Breathing Equipment), and PSU’s (Passenger Service Unit). The Fiberboard Cartons contain a Fire/Thermal Barrier.
The packaging is tested to UN Packaging Group 2 and meets the DOT31FP requirements for Chemical Oxygen Generators. The Reusable Steel Boxes contain a Fire/Thermal Barrier as well. This box is tested to UN Packaging Group 1 and meets the DOT31FP requirements for Chemical Oxygen Generators.
October 2009 Mandatory Compliance Date for HM-224B
New Critical Requirements for all U.S. Commercial Airlines Carrying Oxygen Cylinders and Generators - Mandated by the Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) Rule HM-224B (CFR 49 Parts 173, 175 and 178). The new DOT31FP designation requires that containers for Oxygen Cylinders and Oxygen Generators not only meet the ATA 300 Category 1 requirements for Reusable Shipping Containers, but also meet the Flame and Heat Penetration requirements set forth in the HM-224B rule.
In addition to Compressed, Oxygen UN1072, the rule also lists four additional gases impacted which are Compressed Gas, Oxidizing, N.O.S. UN 3156; Liquefied Gas Oxidizing, N.O.S. UN 3157; Nitrogen Trifluoride UN 2451; and Nitrous Oxide UN 1070. These gases and Oxygen Generator, Chemical UN 3356 shipments all require an outer package that meets the DOT31FP specification.
